Rules

The Be Creative @ Your Library summer reading program is designed to encourage reading during the summer and is open to all ages from newborn to adult. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST SIGN UP AND CLAIM PRIZES IN PERSON at one of the Jackson County Public Library locations. CHILDREN MUST BE PRESENT TO SIGN UP AND CLAIM PRIZES FOR THE READING PROGRAM. Seymour customers will sign up and receive prizes in the library’s Kidz Korner.

Only time spent reading after signing up from May 18 until July 18 will count towards the reading program. All materials used must come from the Seymour, Crothersville, or Medora libraries or the Discovery Bus. Books, magazines, Books on Tape, Books on CD, Audio Kits, Playaways, comic books and graphic novels may be used.

All participants will receive a reading record to be taken home. Participants will keep track of the number of books OR minutes that they read. Readers must color or cross out a shape on the reading record for each book read OR for every 10 minutes of reading time. Children ages 0-10 must have their reading record signed by an adult.

Children are encouraged to read books at or above their reading level.

Children are also encouraged to read on their own; however, parents, older siblings, or other caregivers may assist them in their reading. Every 20 books OR 200 minutes read to a child will be marked on the child’s reading record and will also count as 20 books OR 200 minutes on the reading record of the person reading to the child. (For example : A parent who reads 20 picture books to their child may count that as 20 books on the child’s reading record and 20 books on the adult’s reading record. The child and adult may then claim their first prize.)

Summer reading program participants are awarded prizes for every 20 books OR 200 minutes read for a maximum of 3 prizes for reading 60 books or 600 minutes. At each prize level, all participants will be entered in a drawing to win a themed gift basket.

Prizes will be awarded and documented at the library or the Discovery Bus as they are received. Quantities are limited for some prizes and the library reserves the right to substitute prizes due to availability.
