The exhibit is sponsored in part by the Friends of the Jackson County Public Library and the Humanities Council in Minnesota. There is no registration to take the free bus-museum tour.

Recipents of the Jackson County Public Library's Above & Beyond Award: Maintenance Specialist Roger Brewer, Head of Youth Services Melessa Wiesehan, & Circulation Manager Christina Hime

Library staff members recognized

The Jackson County Public Library was closed Monday, February 16 for Presidents Day; however, library staff participated in an in-service day at the Seymour Library. During the day's staff meeting, three staff members were recognized by a vote from their peers for going "Above and Beyond" in their work at the library. In January, each staff member was able to vote for the three co-workers they felt most deserved the award. Twenty seven different staff members who received votes were awarded door prizes. The top three vote recipients were Roger Brewer, Christina Hime, and Melessa Wiesehan.

Maintenance Specialist Roger Brewer has worked at the library since May 2005. Brewer was previously manager of G.C. Murphy, Ames, and Quality Farm & Fleet stores across the Midwest and southeastern United States. He is a member and deacon of Central Christian Church, Seymour.

Circulation Manager Christina Hime has held her current position at the Seymour Library since June 2006. She was Adult Services Assistant March 2002-June 2006, children's assistant August 2000-March 2002, and page August 1997-August 2000. Hime is a current participant in Leadership Jackson County, serves on the Evergreen Indiana circulation committee, has served as a United Way staff solicitor the past two years, actively participates in United Way Day of Caring each year, and has served as a Big Brothers Big Sisters A.I.M mentor.

Head of Youth Services Melessa Wiesehan has held her position at the Seymour Library since June 2000. She was Children's Librarian at the Bartholomew County Public Library August 1998-June 2000 while receiving a Masters in Library Science from Indiana University in December 1998. While in library school at IU, Wiesehan served as graduate assistant for Briscoe Residence Hall Library. Wiesehan originally began working at the Seymour Library as a page in June 1991 until August 1995. She then worked part-time and over school holidays as a children's assistant until December 1997. She is a 2007 graduate of Leadership Jackson County, has served on the Indiana Library Federation District VI committee, is a member of the Seymour Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, and is president of Prevent Child Abuse Jackson County.

New Year, New Resolutions...New Library Cards

New Card

With the new year, the Jackson County Public Library will change the look of its library card to one sporting the Evergreen Indiana logo. This card will identify its user as a member of the new, multi-library consortium -- soon boasting 35 members, including the Brownstown and Jennings County public libraries. The new cards may be used at any member library thoughout the state; however, users must get a card at their home library where they pay property taxes. In Jackson County, Brownstown, Grassy Fork, and Driftwood township residents will visit the Brownstown Public Library to get a new card. All other township residents will visit the Seymour, Crothersville or Medora libraries.

Beginning Monday, January 5, current customers may receive a free, updated card at any checkout desk. All personal account information will be retained. Any Jackson or Jennings County resident without an active library card is also encouraged to visit their home library and receive a new card. Residents must present a driver's license and proof of current address to receive a card. For more information in Jackson County, call 522-3412, option 0 or 358-2853. Jennings County residents may call 346-2091.
